Ri-Noi: Weaving Tradition, Conservation of Biodiversity and Economic benefit to community

Ri-Noi (རི) translates to Mountains in Dzongkha and Noi (নৈ) translates to river in Assamese. It is a collaboration born where the Eastern Himalayas meet the Brahmaputra plains, focused on empowering Indigenous communities while conserving biodiversity and fostering economic freedom. Rooted in reverence for nature, culture, and craft, Ri-Noi blends ancient traditions with the future, using materials such as yak fiber and sheep wool.

Ri-Noi emphasizes the importance of yak herding in Bhutan, a practice that

conserves alpine meadows and maintains ecosystem balance. Ri-Noi supports Indigenous communities by integrating them into the luxury fashion world, preserving traditional knowledge, and promoting sustainable practices. In doing so, it creates economic opportunities   while safeguarding the land, people, and biodiversity for future generations.

During the 7th Highland Festival at Laya, Ri-Noi hosted an exhibition to motivate the yak herding communities of Bhutan, encouraging them to continue yak rearing and providing them with an alternative source of income. The exhibition also showcased how beautiful products can be made from the yak fiber sourced from their own communities. During this event, the team had the honor of being visited by His Majesty the King of Bhutan, w who appreciated the exhibition.
