Karma Choki
This subtropical plant, native to the warmer regions around the altitude of Gelephu , thrives at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level. Known for its remarkable healing properties, it has been traditionally used by the villagers of remote Bhutanese communities as a natural blood stopper. When a cut occurs, the villagers gently rub the plant on the wound, and the flowing blood halts, a testament to the plant’s profound connection to nature’s wisdom.
But beyond its medicinal use, this humble plant also offers a rare and auspicious gift: a natural dye that produces a beautifully toned-down yellow. The color, soft yet radiant, carries an air of tranquility and humility. It is a shade that evokes a sense of calm, making it perfect for textile and craft work that seeks to embody grace and warmth.

What makes this dye even more extraordinary is its regenerative nature. The plant, when harvested, continues to grow back, symbolizing the cycle of renewal and sustainability. Additionally, the dye’s color is fade-resistant, ensuring that its golden hue remains vibrant and lasting, much like the timeless connection between nature and the people who have nurtured it for generations.
